我国道路交通安全法第四十五条规定，在车道减少的路段、路口，或者在没有交通信号灯、交通标志、交通标线或者交通警察指挥的交叉路口，遇到停车排队等候或者缓慢行驶时，机动车应当依次交替通行。

简而言之，就是“左一辆、右一辆”交替通过，互不抢行，避免了混乱和拥堵。

交替通行有利于规范快速路入口交织秩序，早晚高峰时段遇前方机动车停车排队等候或者缓慢行驶时，合流区机动车做到“左一辆，右一辆”有序进入，有效提高通行效率。

入口交织区域交通运行复杂，交替通行通过规定车辆行车轨迹、约定交织次序方式，有效降低交通冲突，减少因抢行、加塞造成的剐蹭、追尾等交通事故，提升交通安全性。

1、合流点前方有车辆行驶，两侧车道均有车辆时，按照右车、左车、右车.…次序依次交替通行。

2、合流点前方没有车辆，两侧车道车辆同时驶入合流点的，应当让右车先行，按照右车、左车、右车...…次序依次交替通行。

3、一侧车道车辆正常行驶，另一侧车道来车的，从同时驶入合流点的车辆开始，按照右车、左车、右车..…次序依次交替通行。(注：设定为右侧车道车辆正常行驶，左侧来车驶入合流点。)
