一衣带水的中日之间，自古以来有着密切与深入的文化交流与合作。其中，极盛一时的日本“浮世绘”便是中日文化交流的一个重要成果。专家学者普遍认为，日本浮世绘在兴起与发展过程中借鉴了中国明清版画的木版套印技术和西方绘画的明暗透视法，而后形成了富有日本民族特色的艺术风格。
巧合的是，中国版画与日本浮世绘都曾极盛一时，深受两国人民的喜爱。但自近代以来都遭受了现代科技以及西方文化艺术的深度冲击，渐渐丧失了市场竞争力，成了快被遗忘的“文化遗产”。

中国（明清）版画与日本浮世绘，归结起来统属于现代印刷技术诞生之前的传统“印制”工艺。虽然它们与现代印制工艺相比，有着革命性的技术代差，但从艺术的角度而言，就画作本身而言，其本质并没有变化——依然是一幅画，用于叙述、用于言情，用于欣赏、用于装饰等的一幅画。
中国版画也好，日本浮世绘也罢，在它们的发展过程中，都不是封闭的，更不是静态的，都在不断汲取先进技术、先进文化、先进思想。
比如，日本浮世绘在发展过程中陆续出现了墨摺绘、丹绘、红绘、漆绘、锦绘、蓝绘等绘画形式以及空摺、云母摺、羽化摺、无线摺等拓印方式。中国版画在近代则在木刻版画的基础上，发展出石版、铜版、丝网版、石膏版及其他综合版画，进一步发挥了其在各个历史时期的艺术价值和政治社会作用。

时间流逝，历史成为过往，但并不意味着过去的一切事和物都需要抛却，相反如今的事和物都是过去事和物的延展，它们往往有着一样的本质，因此要想深入把握当下的事和物，就需要了解它们曾经的形态。就印制类画作来说，早期形态的“版画”，如中国明清版画与日本浮世，依然有众多的印制工艺、艺术思想等值得借鉴与吸收。

比如，浮世绘中的“大首绘”，就与当下网络社区中的“网络头像”有着相同的审美机理。中国版画中体现出来的“阖家团圆”“共同劳作”等氛围与场景，就与我们当下强调的家庭和睦、团体协作、社会和谐等主流价值观相一致。
反过来，我们学习和探究“版画”的目的也非原封不动地恢复和传承原有的形式，我们亦没有必要“坚守”本质相同的但“古老”与“陈旧”的东西，更主要的是汲取其中的创新精神、叙事方式、审美技巧等，用“新的版画”将其展现出来。这才是艺术文化传承与弘扬的根本。
